For those of you who haven't heard yet, the Red Hot Blues Sisters have been burning up the Blues Scene around Seattle. They have been nominated for best Blues Band 2006, singer Suze Sims has been nominated for Best Singer, Guitarist Teri Wilson has been nominated for Best Guitarist, and Scotty Harris has been nominated for Best Sax Player. And they allow me to stand on stage with them - how about that?

The Washington Blues Society (WBS) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote, preserve and advance the culture of tradition of blues music as an art form. And each year, they give out awards for the highest quality in Northwest blues.

The awards are given out for 24 categories, and the organization's website lists all of the winners in all catagories.

Performing tonight will be Becki Sue and Her Big Rockin' Daddies (http://www.bigrockindaddies.com/), Blues Alliance (http://www.bluesalliance.net/), and the Red Hot Blues Sisters (http://www.redhotbluessisters.com/) All three of these bands have won multiple awards from the society.

HELLO SEATTLE! DID YOU KNOW WE HAVE WORLD CLASS AFRICAN MUSICIANS RIGHT HERE IN TOWN? PEOPLE THAT HAVE WON MULTIPLE JUNO AWARDS, BEST WORLD MUSIC ALBUM AWARDS, AND HAVE BEEN NATIONAL STARS IN AFRICA?

I didn't think so. That's why I put it in all caps. The simple fact is, we have some the great African musicians living here. And there's very few venues where they play regularly. Seattle's current hot spot for African Music is Hidmo Eritrean Restaurant. AND IT'S FREE COVER!! Every Sunday Night at 8pm!

Yogi sez: Get down there and shake your money-maker! The Hidmo series is produced by Rob Pastorak, leader of Maya Soleil Band and local African Music enthusiast.

This scene usually flies totally under the radar, except for folks who are connected to the local African diaspora. You heard it here!

I just met Bill a few weeks ago. He's a very talented guitarist, and this Ballard Sunday gig is just heart warming. It's Ballard - it's the Neighborhood, it's the musicians, it's the atmosphere - and the food is very good, even though the menu is rather limited in choices. Who cares? Order some food - you'll like it! Drink specials 3 -6pm.

Here's a special event from local Brazilian music enthisiast, singer, and KBCS DJ Samia Panni:

Hello Friends,

The Brazilian guitar/vocal duo, Claudia Villela and Ricardo Peixoto, will be performing with Jovino Santos-Neto at the Jazz Alley on May 16th and 17th. All three of these tremendous musicians are well known faculty members of the California Brazil Camp and applauded performers of the Brazilian jazz genre.

Along with local guitarist, Michael Biller, I am helping to organize a couple of workshops, one would be a Brazilian guitar clinic with Ricardo Peixoto and the other, a Brazilian vocal workshop with Claudia Villela. The workshops are scheduled for May 14th. Time and place TBD very soon, pending flight reservations. These workshops are for all levels. You do not need to know how to speak Portuguese or have prior experience playing Brazilian music.

This truly is a rare opportunity to have workshops of this kind and caliber in this area.

Each workshop would last one hour and a half, and the last half hour we would bring both the guitar and vocal classes together for some "applied learning." Each workshop would cost $20 and will be taking place in a centralized location, easily accessible to anyone living in the Seattle/Bellevue area.

Hi Everyone!

Just a quick note on a couple of shows I am in. Soon will be coming a more full newsletter with the gigs of my friends bands too.

I have the pleasure of appearing in the reggae/world fusion band of Selassie I-Soldier on two consecutive Saturdays. Appearing with Soldier is Tanzania’s own Alex Kajumulo, or Baba Kaju as we call him, performing some of his songs too. These guys have had hit songs in Jamaica and Tanzania, and we are building a unique world fusion sound. So come see us.
